The British Silver Week 2012 Festival of Silver has launched at Pangolin London Fine Art Gallery in Kings Place and will be running until Friday 18th May.
The Birmingham Assay office is proud to sponsor the event and Business Manager Marie Brennan and Marketing Manager Penny Parkes attended on Monday and remarked that they were 'pleased to see that Birmingham Silver smiths were well represented at the event.'

An educational institute should be at the heart of its community, according to the Principal of University College Birmingham (UCB) – who is in support of a new initiative to improve the Jewellery Quarter.

Increasing numbers of people have been selling off the family silver amid rocketing prices, according to Birmingham jewellery traders.
Terry Ann Stephenson, of Lois in the city's Jewellery Quarter, said the high prices meant many items were more valuable sold as scrap rather than for their antique value.
"It's such a shame, but at the end of the day it's just a sign of the times," she said.
"You know people are struggling for money and it's just a way of getting money together to pay bills."
UK silver prices, which were below £4 per ounce in 2003, reached an all-time high of nearly £30 per ounce last year.

Successful Asian Jewellery Seminar held Rececently In Birmingham in collaboration with The Birmingham Assay Office, British Jewellers' association, Birmingham City Council Trading Standards, West Midlands Police, Surrey Police, the Metropolitan Police.
In an effort to highlight the issues in the Asian jewellery community, a very successful evening seminar was recently held at the BJA conference centre in Birmingham.
As a joint collaboration between the British Jewellers’ Association, Birmingham Assay Office, Birmingham City Council and West Midlands Police, the seminar highlighted the issues relating to security, hallmarking and trading in second hand jewellery over the counter.

sale at Christie's New York. The star of the auction was a
9-carat cushion-cut fancy vivid purplish-pink diamond ring by Dreicer &
Co., which sold for a U.S. auction record of $15,762,500 or $1.75 million per
carat.
The Clark Pink, which dates back to circa 1910, was part of the estate
of Huguette M. Clark. It was bought by Brett Stettner of Stettner Investment
Diamonds.
The Clark estate achieved a total of $20.8 million against a presale
